St Augustine : Prior General and an Augustinian of Korea
Prior General and an
Augustinian of Korea

A charism is that special spirit left by the founder(s) of a religious order, or that special aspect of the Christian message on which its seeks to focus, to the extent that such a spirit and/or aspect comes to exert a real effect on those who come into contact with it.

The Augustinian charism has been written in many ways.

Here is how the Australian Province has described it:

Following Saint Augustine, we are called to continue the mission of Jesus by:

the love of God in and through community

developing interiority (interioridad in Spanish and interiorita in Italian) and a sense of prayer

enriching our community life through the recognition, development, and expression of individual talents

living in simplicity and in solidarity with those who are poor, and accepting the sacrifice which follows being a disciple of Jesus

embracing and integrating our life in community with our ministry for the Church

manifesting the kindness, the humility (humilitas) and the friendship of Jesus in all our relationships

proclaiming for our times the Good News of the Kingdom of God, and working to bring about the liberation of individuals and society

being open to new ideas and courageously adapting our style of living and our ministries to the needs of the times. ID0262
